Unique exhibition project “Orthodox icons of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus” is being prepared by the leading museums of the three countries. The National Art Museum of Belarus, the Tretyakovsky Gallery of Russia and the National Kievo-Pechersk reserve of Ukraine will present the best exhibits of their collections. According to director general of the Tretyakovsky Gallery Valentin Rodionov, the exposition will be presented in Moscow, Kiev and Minsk from May 29 till November 9. The collection of the icons is meant to demonstrate the common cultural origins of the three Slavic nations and the originality of the national schools of icon painting. It is symbolic that among the icons that the Tretyakovsky Gallery has picked up for the exhibition is the Icon of the Assumption of the Virgin which is said to be found on the bell tower of one of the Minsk churches a few centuries ago. |
