An Olympic torch arrived in Minsk from Beijing last night, April 27. On April 29 the torch will be given to the Museum of Olympic Glory of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) which hosts an exhibition of pictures about sport from the PRC. The exhibition is dedicated to 100 days ahead of the Beijing Olympic Games 2008. Attending the ceremony will be officials of the PRC embassy to Belarus, NOC First Vice-President Gennady Alekseenko, chief of the Belarusian Olympic mission in Beijing 2008 Minister of Sport and Tourism Alexander Grigorov, NOC secretary general Georgy Katulin and NOC Vice-President Alexander Medved. Ambassador of the PRC to Belarus Wu Hongbin will hand over the torch to the Belarusian side. The event will be covered by the First Channel of the National Television of China and Xinhua news agency. Thus, Belarus will have an opportunity to receive the Olympic torch even though the Olympic torch relay does not go through Belarus. |
