The festival of the Swedish cinema will include every modern genre of cinematography: melodrama, psychological drama, thriller, comedy and others. The event will take place in the Cinema Tsentralny in Minsk on June 4-13. Belarusian cinema goers will see eight films produced in 2006-2007, BelTA learnt from the office of the Swedish embassy in Minsk. The most interesting picture is You, the Living of well-known Swedish producer Roy Anderson. This psychological drama was recognized the best film of Sweden in 2007. On June 6, the Cinema Tsentralny will screen an animation experimental short film of 2007 Love and War. The festival will also include a Silver Bear holder of the Berlin cinema festival 2002 – Jens Jonsson’s picture My Brother. The festival will be wrapped up with Johan Kling’s picture Dear, a drama with the elements of comedy and black humour. It has been recognized the best film of Northern Europe in 2007. The programme will offer the pictures, participants in the numerous international festivals, Woman and Gramophone, When Darkness Thickens and the best Swedish short film of 2006 Sadness, Karma, Tiger and many others. All the films will be subtitled in Russian. The festival of the Swedish cinema has been timed to the Days of the Swedish Culture in Belarus on May 21-July 5 marking the Independence Day of Sweden (the Flag Day). The programme of the Days has been divided into four sections: literature, cinema, photo and music. The cultural programme started with the Literature Days of Sweden in Polotsk. Minsk will host two photo-projects: an exhibition of well-known Swedish photographer Jens Lasthein White Sea – Black Sea (from May 28 to June 29) and an exhibition of the works of Swedish novices Balancing between Stockholm and Minsk (from June 14 to July 5). On June 7, Minsk will play host to a concert New Women’s Music with the participation of the Swedish women’s groups. |
