World No Tobacco Day and Prevention of Oncological Disease will take place in Minsk on November 15. Svetlana Oshujko, a physician-valeologist of the Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, informed that information materials and consultations will be offered to all comers in all establishments of public health services and educational services. The results of the questionnaire show that preventive information actions are effective – during the last 6 years the number of smokers has decreased by 9% in Minsk and other regions of Belarus. The positive moment is that nowadays more and more young people quit smoking. During the same period of time more than 15% of youth smokers aged 21-25 years stopped smoking. Smoking causes oncological diseases. Five thousand people die annually from diseases caused by smoking. |
